Some industries quickly adopted social media practices and have been able to leverage these powerful tools to build their brands. The finance industry, however, has been one of the last holdouts to embrace social media. The banking industry is so deeply entrenched in boring & staid tradition there haven’t been many companies wiling to give social media a chance.
Social media is all about connections through relevant engaging content. At a time when consumers dislike and distrust ‘big banks’ and the media focuses on the large multi-million dollar bonuses being paid to executives, social media is a great way to reconnect with consumers.
Community banks and smaller financial institutions could benefit the most. Using social media to share information with new adults (the largest consumer segment in social media) is a great way to build your brand. They need to know how to invest, how to buy a home, how much to save now for retirement. Be the company that shares this information with them in the way they want to consume it and develop a relationship for the rest of their life.
