4 Tips to Help Your Bold Brave Brand Stand Out From the Pack
Human nature is to blend in. Wanting to stand out can be really scary and dangerous. This goes all the way back to the law of the jungle. Why do antelopes and zebras travel in a pack? To blend in. To their predators, the pack down in the plains, looks like one large animal that is too big to consider attacking. There is real safety in numbers.
In high school, no one wants to be the one that looks different or stands out. That is a quick way to draw attention to yourself – which can be even more dangerous than the risks the animals of the jungle face. Take a scroll with social media and you will see thousands of teenagers who all look and dress exactly alike. They might stand out if they were in your high school yearbook of yesterday, but they have all managed to morph together.
With the law of the jungle and human nature working against you, how can you possibly be expected to stand out. It’s scary and risky to be different and bring attention to yourself. Even in business. Yet, if you don’t stand out in business the results can be disastrous. If you don’t find a way to break through the clutter and let your audience know you’re there, then you will face a fate worse than anonymity.
These are 4 tips to help you build a bold brave brand and stand out from the pack:
- Know your target audience. Everyone isn’t your audience. If you spend your time and money trying to reach everyone then you will effectively reach no one. Break your target audience down as much as you can and get as specific as possible. You can have multiple target audiences but you need to define each one with as much detail as possible. Know your audience’s demographics and their psychographics to be able to identify what their pain points are and what they really need from your business. It’s not just your products and services. They are actually looking for the way you can make their lives better.
- Know your message. How you talk about your company, its products & services, and the benefit that it provides to the community is important. If you are focusing on a list of features in your message and not the benefit you provide then you will not properly connect with anyone.
- Know your competition. If you want to be different then you have to know what the rest of the market is doing. How do they look? What do they say? The more you know about everyone else, the better you can find the niche that is yours to fill.
- Know your options. Where you put your message is a crucial decision these days. It’s harder than ever to reach your target audience effectively. It used to be a lot easier when there were only a few traditional media choices. Now, with the creation of the internet, digital media, and social media, it’s harder than ever to break through the clutter and get someone’s attention.
If you follow these steps then you will be able to find a way to stand out and get noticed. This is a scary concept but it can be incredibly rewarding. Find your niche and own it to attract your believers.
