Is Your Brand Building a Legacy?
As you build your brand, you are building a legacy – whether you mean to or not. Just as brand is synonymous with reputation, the long-lasting impression is your legacy. Everything you do in your business will help to build or break your brand in the short term and your legacy in the long term.
Are you being intentional?
As a lifelong New Orleans Saints fan, I watched with sadness as their season came to a premature end in the playoffs. With all of the talk around this potentially being the end of Drew Brees’ career, I watched him walk off the field, look back one last time, and take it all in.
Legacy.
His story has been told repeatedly over the years. This is a guy who was written off in high school and again in college for being too small to play in the pros, but he worked hard to show his abilities. Then, after an injury in San Diego, most considered his career to be over, but he worked hard to recover. Brees even became the leader of the New Orleans Saints as the city and state worked hard on their own recovery following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
The glory and success that Brees brought to us on the field was actually overshadowed by the work that he did off the field. His brand of “hard-working teammate” evolved into his legacy of generosity and giving back to the community.
If Brees really has played his last game, then his legacy is intact, and what he gave to all Saints fans will be cherished forever.
